The Game Plan for Economic Policy Analysis in the Real World

“The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping from old ones.”

– John Maynard Keynes

Learning Objectives

By the end of Part IV, you’ll be able to:

  1. Integrate policy design and policy analysis in an iterative, real-world process
  2. Apply a structured framework to select the right tools for a given policy challenge
  3. Identify the emerging challenges that will shape economic policy analysis in the years ahead

You’ve got the tools. Now it’s game time. Part IV is about putting it all together — how to choose the right combination of incentives and analytical methods when the problem is messy, the data is imperfect, and the stakeholders don’t agree. Chapter 11 gives you a structured game plan for doing exactly that. Chapter 12 looks at what’s coming next: AI, climate change, the gig economy, and the skills you’ll need to stay ahead of the curve.

Remember, the best analysts aren’t the ones with the most sophisticated models — they’re the ones who ask the right questions in the first place.
